I Want You Here

from The Way Home by Candace Griffin

/

about

Written August 2013 after a fun day in Chicago. Sometimes when I'm out and about, I want my friends there.

lyrics

I was on the last boat out of Chinatown when I started missing you.
I just spent all my money, but I would have rather spent the time with you.
I heard last night you couldn't sleep, you should have jumped on the train with me.
But now I'm in another state, a Windy City with a great lake, down by the Pier.
And I wish you were here.

I passed the House of Blues, and couldn't help thinking, one day I'll play there with you.
We'll take the town by storm, and it won't be long before we make our big debut.
But now I'm running for the train and no one told me it was gonna rain tonight.
I wouldn't mind so much getting wet, if it was your hand I was holding, I'd be alright.
But you're not here...

And I wish you were here!
Would you dance with me, dance with me in the puddles right here?
Have no fear!
If we're too late and miss our train, we'll stay right here.
We'll laugh through the night. With you, I'd be alright.
I really want you here tonight.

And when I'm on the road, I see sights that I'd like to show you.
I play 20 Questions by myself, but I'd rather use them to help me get to know you.
When I cross the county lines and see the road signs saying Come Back Soon...
I know that I will, but I won't turn around until my right hand seat is filled with you.
I want you here...

And I wish you were here!
It's getting late, keep me awake. Navigate and I'll steer.
Have no fear!
If we miss our turn or crash and burn, at least you'd be near.
We'd laugh through the night, with you I'd be alright.
I really need you here tonight.

I was on the last boat out of Chinatown when I realized I should've called you.
Now you're not here.
I wish you were here.
I really want you here tonight.

As a songwriter, she takes inspiration from the life around her, and with honest words and acoustic-driven emotions, she puts her listeners right in the moment.
